Leap Season // Mark DeCarteret
Even if these leaves revealed
more of their winter-selves --
that pesticide-white of old sails,
those times sided with everyone
laid to rest where the sea stirs the least --
would the viewer appear any less tiresome, remote,
because of their leverage, spring-mindedness --
more of those send-offs thinly veiled in lapsed petals?
