vellum // kimberly becker

You asked me to describe the light,
said if anyone could I can.
Years later on a walk it comes to me:

The light that was like an eggshell
surrounding the furniture
drawing the gleam from the silver
sheen from the china
glow from the crystal

The light that was textured like kidskin
on which we scratched out
our lives—
That light has left
but its name arrives:
it was vellum.
