Driving into a Rainstorm on the Road to Charlottesville // Daniel Barbiero

A grey muslin drape
That hardens into
Brilliant pebbles
Wet and luminous
As one draws near
Is water by another name
A natural prism
Putting light
Under the description of color.
What we knew then
So vividly
Recedes in time
Though something discovered
Can only be
Discovered once
No matter how often
We forget
As light precipitates
From mist
Rubbing the nap of the hill
Against the grain.
